Teaching
- In Fall, 2023, in collaboration with UNC Charlotte (United States), Kingston University (United Kingdom) and New York University Shanghai (China), we have a great opportunity to be involved in Collaborative Online International Learning. COIL refers to an approach that enables students from different places in the world to collaborate on specific projects. Students consider diverse perspectives, leading to a richer, more nuanced, understanding of issues. Students engage in “Virtual Cocktail Party” sessions, delving into cross-cultural discussions on social work practices and policies across three different countries. Six classes, facilitated through Zoom, cover a diverse range of topics, including immigration/refugees, disabilities, substance abuse, pension, and poverty.
- In Spring 2004, we had another exciting collaboration with UNC Charlotte (United States) and the University of Johannesburg (South Africa), offering a fantastic opportunity to engage in COIL. Facilitated via Zoom, these sessions span three classes, covering a wide array of topics such as crafting interventions, establishing SMART goals, and devising evaluation strategies. The feedback from these sessions has been overwhelmingly positive. Not only do they provide an exciting platform for social work students to interact with peers from across the globe, but they also foster mutual learning and understanding. The intercultural exchange serves as a valuable opportunity for students to hone their communication skills and learn to engage effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
